Picture at the top: Drive through the road infront of the NSSHS, Kudassanad. Each inch around is counted, read the story below.
Bottom: A snap at the IOB road that going to the Anikunnathu Mahadevar Temple. The tiled roof building belong to the church seen in the picture is under renovation and is proposed for a facelift with a concrete structure. The IOB building which is already on 3 floor may go up further. Our honourable Ex-Patron Sri. Satyadevan is not a simple guy to open his mind so easily to the public at large, to whom this building belong..! The road widening work has begun, probably extending to Padanilam temple junction via Chappuram and further to Chunakkara etc. Hence very shortly we may expect bus services in this route.
To purchase some potatoes and onions I went to a vegetable shop in Kudassanad and gave a hundred rupees note. While returning the change the shop keeper leaned forward and whispered something in my ear: “There is some property, shall I arrange it?”
I got stunned and felt outrageous. During the evenings such questions are not unfamiliar around Esplanade area in the Calcutta city that one may confronted frequently with such tongue in cheek questions from strangers.
But I am now standing this calm, serene and my sleepy ancestral village.
With increased curiosity I asked him, “What’s up?”
“It’s could cheaper than you expected, but thing is fine. Since we are known people I can make some adjustments”.
This time I could not control my outbursts, “Hey man, are you mad? I just came for a short vacation. This is not what I expected from the people around here. And, if I come to know again that you uttered such words once again to anyone, and then will chop off your tongue.”
This time it was his turn to get astonished. Knowing the mistaken communication, He apologised and said, “I was talking about a piece of land around here”.

Taking public oaths, elders addressing cool audiences, planting tree saplings etc, many of us ceremoniously joined rest of the world to commemorate the World Environment Day on June 5th 2010.
In the backdrop of recent Singur, Kinaloor, Nandigram etc episodes or the latest at Attappadi, please listen to the story of 417 acres of cultivable wetland in Kumarakam, near Kottayam and the conspiracy by a few cells in the ruling CPI(M) top brass, even without the knowledge of the party district committee, understood to have lead by Mr. Elamaram Karim honourable Minster for Industries, Government of Kerala to develop this land to a Golf Course and a Tourism Village with initial estimated private investment of 2000crores rupees.
The real identity of promoters are still unknown, but is represented a group from Ras Al Khaima, UAE. The project invited strong protests from the rest of their own party colleagues, allies and affiliated wings like KSKTU, DYFI etc.
It is reported that this land in question was donated by the King of the erstwhile Travancore Kingdom gave for cultivation to a Metropolitan of the Malankara Orthodox Church hence the name came Metran Kaayal or Seminary Lake. The Metropolitan in turn gave this land to the Parishioners on lease basis.

This PONNONAM day is to celebrate abundance, prosperity, truthfulness and is devoid of greed, selfishness and conceit.
It is associated with cheerful harvest season, proclaiming the saga of a rich farming tradition of our mother land.
Devoid of caste-creed considerations, irrespective of age, from huts to palaces everyone celebrate this season.
Yesterday. Uthrdadam was a busy paachil for the preparation for today and today is the day for cherishing special delicacies from the kitchen of own house.
However for many gulf Malayalies like me it is a day for sweet fantasies too. After queuing up in-front of hotels to collect the previously booked ready-to-eat take-away packets, rush to home to eat the food on torn and shabby banana leaves that imported from India or Thailand.
It is not the pleasing sunlight with dragon flies and thumba flowers around, but with unbearable hot and humid summer season that further restricted with the strictness of the Ramadan fasting and usual tight work schedules.
With a new optimism we too join the rest of the world on this auspicious occasion of happiness and prosperity.
HAPPY PONNONAM..!!!

A hilarious article recently circulated in KOSS email forum ...
